Belarus’ Great Patriotic War museum to tell about early postwar years

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – One of the halls of the new Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History will be dedicated to the early postwar period, Svetlana Pribysh, head of the exposition department of the museum, told a press conference on 12 February, BelTA learned.

“The new hall will be dedicated to the period of reconstruction – first years when everything were rebuilt and restored. The theme is a new one for the museum,” Svetlana Privysh said.

Speaking about the future exposition, the specialist noted that the exhibition would feature an installation with a working title, A Teenager On-Site. The image will be a symbol of all the workers on the home front.

According to Director of the museum Nikolai Skobelev, while working on the design of the exposition, Belarusian specialists have been consulting with their colleagues from Russia, in particular, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill and the Central Armed Forces Museum. “They have good traditions, and we believe our museum should have all the best developed by our colleagues,” Nikolai Skobelev said.

On the initiative of the President of Belarus, the construction of the new building of the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War began in April 2010.

The new building is located in Pobeditelei Prospekt behind the Minsk Hero City architectural and sculptural complex. Next is Heroes’ Square (it will boast 170-jets fountain, each of which will be dedicated to one of the villages liberated by the Red Army) and Victory Park.

The new building of the museum will be inaugurated during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation.
