MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – Nadezhda Misyakova from Minsk will represent Belarus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest that will be held in Malta on 15 November. The national selection for the international song contest took place in Minsk on 29 August, BelTA has learned.
Taking part in the national selection were nine solo performers and one duo. The winner was determined equally by televoting and the jury. As a result, three entries tied for the first place: Anna Zaitseva, Pavel and Ksenia Lashchevsky and Nadezhda Misyakova.
In line with the rules of the contest, if two or more contestants get the same number of points, the winner is determined by open voting of the jury. The experts decided in favor of Nadezhda Misyakova.
Nadezhda Misyakova is 14 years old. She was born and raised in Minsk. She studies singing at the Zaranak band at the Mulyavin National Music Center. The young singer has taken part in numerous song contests in Belarus and abroad and won many of them. Besides singing, Nadezhda loves dancing and poetry.
Nadezhda is the author of music and lyrics to her entry Sokal. Belarusian singer Uzari helped make the arrangement for the song.
This year the official website of the Junior Eurovision contest arranged the first live broadcast of the national selection. Luke Fisher, representative of the European Broadcasting Union and Communications Co-Ordinator of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2014, will promote the national selection in foreign media space.
Malta will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the first time this year. The slogan of the contest is #Together. It was inspired by the slogan of the contest in Copenhagen, which read #JoinUs.
So far, the participation in the contest was confirmed by Armenia, Georgia, the Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden and Malta. Representatives of Italy, Slovenia and Montenegro will also take the stage. Cyprus, Bulgaria, Portugal and Serbia will resume their participation in the contest after a break.
Belarus has been taking part in the junior song contest since its establishment in 2003. Belarus won the contest two times: in 2005 (Ksenia Sitnik with the entry We Are Together) and in 2007 (Alexei Zhigalkovich with the entry With Friends). In 2013 Ilya Volkov’s entry Sing With Me finished third.
