Art Islands 2016 on Komsomolskoye Lake in Minsk

The Art Islands project first presented in summer 2015 on the largest island of Komsomolskoye Lake in Minsk has already gained popularity among the fans of contemporary art. It is the largest outdoor museum of installations in Belarus. About 500,000 people came to see the exposition of 14 works by Belarusian designers and sculptors last year.

The organizers are planning to create a city park of modern sculptures in the future. But today visitors are offered to see a new exhibition, which opened on 23 June, that features 16 works of Belarusian artists in different areas of contemporary art. In general, "live" gallery comprises 15 exclusive art objects created with the use of different materials such as wood, plastic, and metal. The height of a number of them exceeds five meters, and the total weight reaches 40 tonnes.

In the spotlight of the exhibition are giant hugging wings made of rods, snow-white cocoons on trees, a three-wheeled wooden "funny-bike", a multicolored "LEGO-tree", and a birdhouse for thoughts. Right here, in the heart of Minsk, visitors of the exhibition have an opportunity to travel in space and time, embrace the nature, feel the influence of an artificial world, take part in a road quest by famous sculptor Konstantin Selikhanov and even to dance with shadows.
