MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – The All-Belarus Congress is a supreme form of democracy that embodies historical experience and modern democratic tendencies, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his opening speech at the Fourth All-Belarus People’s Congress on 6 December.
According to the head of state, it is the fourth time that the young Belarusian sovereign state has organized such a big forum. “Its origins trace back to the popular assemblies held on the Slavonic land and in the ancient Polotsk and Turov. Back then such forums addressed the matters of primary importance. We have revived and continued this good tradition,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
According to the Belarusian leader, the All-Belarus People’s Congress allows for an open, fair and interested conversation between people and the authorities. “The forum helps take important decisions publicly, not privately, with a wide participation of all the groups of the population,” the President of Belarus stressed.
