MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus is destined to become a bridge between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union, German Vice Chancellor, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel told the media on 17 November, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus can become a sort of a bridge between the EAEU and the EU. I believe that one should not choose between them, quite the opposite. Maybe, Belarus is destined to bridge these two regions,” Sigmar Gabriel said.
German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel and Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in the 15th Minsk Forum on 17 November. The forum was resumed in 2016 after a six-year hiatus. The two officials gave reports on relations between Belarus, Germany, and the EU, and talked to the media. The forum also discusses Belarus’ participation in the Eastern Partnership initiative, the country’s chances to join the WTO, and regional cooperation.
