Anniversary of Belarusian book printing to be in spotlight at international book fair in Prague

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – The national exposition of the Republic of Belarus at the international fair Book World that will run in Prague from 11 to 14 May will be themed around the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Information Ministry.

The Belarusian booth at the fair will showcase the best products published in Belarus in 2016 and 2017 and books devoted to Francysk Skaryna and the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing issued by the state publishing houses Mastatskaya Litaratura, Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia, Belarus, Zviazda, and Narodnaya Asveta.

The Belarusian delegation to the fair will hold a number of book presentations that will be attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Czech Republic Valery Kurdyukov and embassy staff, Head of the Publishing Activity and Book Selling Department of the Belarusian Information Ministry Yelena Pavlova, and the heads of the publishing houses Mastatskaya Litaratura, Narodnaya Asveta, the book selling company Belkniga, and the country’s biggest printing enterprise Yakub Kolas Printing and Publishing Plant.

The Belarusian delegation will lay flowers at the monument to Francysk Skaryna in Prague and the commemorative plaque near the Prague Town Hall that indicates the place where the Belarusian first book printer translated the Bible 500 years ago.

Representatives of Belarus’ book publishing industry will donate collections of Belarusian books to the Czech-Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the embassy.
