ISLAMABAD, 5 October (BelTA) - Belarus and Pakistan have signed a package of documents on the development of cooperation in various fields. Memorandums, agreements and protocols were signed at the end of the talks between Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad, BelTA has learned.

The package of documents includes the protocol of exchange of instruments of ratification on the entry into force of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Belarus and Pakistan. The document establishes the completion of relevant domestic procedures. The parties signed similar protocols regarding the agreement on mutual legal assistance in civil and economic affairs, the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters.

In the field of trade and economic cooperation, the parties signed the memorandum of cooperation between the National Center for Marketing and Price Study at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. This document provides for a mechanism to exchange trade and economic information for promotion of bilateral trade.

The parties have specified the terms and conditions of application of the avoidance of double taxation regime. They are laid down in the protocol on amendments and additions to the relevant convention between the governments of the two countries as of 23 July 2004.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Bank of Belarus and the State Bank of Pakistan.

Pakistan and Belarus will set up a joint center of science and technology to promote scientific and technological cooperation.

Belarus and Pakistan concluded a number of agreements in the field of humanitarian cooperation. Among them is an intergovernmental agreement on the mutual recognition of diplomas, a memorandum of intent for cooperation in the field of vocational training between Belarus’ Education Ministry and the Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training of Pakistan, an agreement of cooperation of the Belarusian State Technical University and the Belarusian State University of Physical Education with Quaid-i-Azam University.

The Belarusian State Technological University signed cooperation agreements with the National University of Modern Languages and the National University of Sciences and Technology. The Belarusian National Technical University singed a cooperation agreement with Lahore University of Engineering and Technology.

The Minsk State Linguistic University and the National University of Modern Languages signed an agreement to set up centers of the Belarusian language and Urdu.

The governments of Belarus and Pakistan also concluded an agreement on air service that will create the necessary legal framework to regulate the bilateral air communication.
