MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – There are plans to present a Belarusian electric car by summer 2017. Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov made the announcement during the press conference held on 25 January to mark Belarusian Science Day, BelTA has learned.

“We are going to present an electric car in the Academy of Sciences by summer,” said the Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

In his words, the Joint Mechanical Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is hard at work creating the electric car. “The car will be based on a regular BelGee car. The electric equipment and the electromechanical part are completely made in Belarus. The prototype model is supposed to be ready by June-July,” said the official.

Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin said that the prototype model may be presented during Belarusian Science Days in Moscow in June. “The electric bus will surely be presented during the Forum of Regions of Russia and Belarus in Moscow. But we would like to present all the Belarusian latest products in the area of electric transport, including the electric car, on the Russian market,” he remarked.
