Kupala Ring tourist route
A fascinating tourist route Kupala Ring was put together in 2020 for guests of the Alexandria Gathers Friends festival. It introduces visitors to the rich history of Shklov District and showcases the picturesque places of Alexandria and its environs. The starting point is the town of Shklov. The landmarks include: the Transfiguration Church of the mid-19th century founded by devout believer Agafia Sidorova; the town hall with the former shopping arcades (1769), included in the catalog of monuments of world architecture; the Alley of Heroes and the Pamyat [Memory] memorial complex; a monument to Shklov cucumber; and a city park. There are many springs in Shklov District. The route takes to the most famous of them: the Trofimov Spring and a spring near the village of Slobodka. Alexandria, once a large town in Shklov District, is known for incredibly picturesque views of the Dnieper and the famous Kupala festival today. Here guests can visit the school that Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko attended. On the opposite bank of the river is the town of Kopys, one of the oldest settlements in Belarus. It was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1059.
