Nicaragua’s FM conveys Daniel Ortega’s greetings to Lukashenko

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - Nicaragua’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Denis Moncada Colindres conveyed greetings from his country’s President Daniel Ortega to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko as he met with the Belarusian leader in Minsk on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

“Big greetings from President Daniel Ortega, brotherly greetings and best wishes,” the minister said. He also conveyed greetings and warmest wishes from Nicaragua’s Vice President Rosario Murillo.

The minister stressed the importance of the meeting: “Thank you very much, Mr. President, our friend, our comrade. Our entire delegation welcomes you with all the warmth, with all the goodwill.”

The Nicaragua minister of foreign affairs is in Minsk on a working visit on 19-20 May.

As BelTA has reported earlier, Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested at the meeting that the two countries strengthen bilateral cooperation. “Today we have everything necessary to have such good, close relations. Even the legendary leader of Nicaragua, whom we all love and respect in Belarus. I ask you to convey the warmest words to Daniel Ortega on behalf of the Belarusian people and me personally. We admire his political activity,” the president said.

In his words, everything Nicaragua needs is available in Belarus. “We need to establish our relations in such a way as to develop a legal framework for our future economic relations. It is a matter of time. I think that if we do this job, we will not only develop this legal framework within a year, but we will start deep economic relations between our countries. We are ready for that,” the Belarusian leader said.

Belarus and Nicaragua cooperate within the framework of international organizations. At the moment, trade relations are relatively small in volume. They are mainly the supplies of products from Belarus. The legal framework is in the process of formation. Experts are negotiating drafts of a number of key agreements, which will form the basis for the development of trade and economic cooperation.
