Lukashenko emphasizes commonality of interests of CSTO countries

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – Modern challenges combine national interests of the Collective Security Treaty Organization countries into one knot. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement at a restricted-attendance session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Minsk on 23 November, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “There is no doubt that every one of us looks at the world through the prism of national interests. It is understandable. It is justified. We, the heads of state bear the responsibility for our nations and are answerable to them for their future and security. At the same time the balance of observance of national and collective interests by all the CSTO member states guarantees stability and security of the region as a whole. It is dialectics. Besides, every one of us has his own area of responsibility within the framework of the organization. We understand that modern challenges and threats are global. Moreover, they combine our national interests into one knot.”

The head of state mentioned key problems, which, in his words, affect all the CSTO members and are closely interrelated with each other.

“The whirlwind of the change of eras is already spinning us. All of you mention it in your speeches very often. You and I are witnesses of the destruction of the previous system of international relations. And we are participants of the destruction of the current unipolar, if you want, West-centric model. A gradual transition to multipolarity is in progress. A complicated and dramatic transition. Due to the unwillingness of Western politicians to yield their positions. They ignore the implacable progress of history, which is impossible to stop as you know,” the president stressed.
