MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) – Works of Hungarian artists will be displayed in Belarus. The exposition “Hungarian Rhapsody. Artists of Szolnok” from the collection of the Janos Damjanich Museum in Szolnok will open at the National Art Museum of Belarus on 23 October, Director General of the museum Vladimir Prokoptsov told a press conference, BelTA has learnt.
The exposition will feature more than 30 works of 24 artists. All the works were created by one of the biggest and most prominent group of artists of Szolnok. The group of artists, founded some over 50 years ago, is still an important center of landscape and genre paining in central Hungary. “It is a special place, similar to a creative workshop, where artists live and create. They come from different countries. I think Belarusian artists could have been there as well,” Vladimir Prokoptsov said adding that the artistic center is supported by the Culture Ministry of Hungary.
The exhibition will tell about the most interesting evolvement periods of the group of artists: from the 1900s to the 1970s. In summer of 1944 the city was badly hit. As a result, the collection of paintings and all the documentation was destroyed. “It was quite difficult to select the works which survived the best,” Laszlo Horvath, Director of the Janos Damjanich Museum, noted.
The most valuable works include masterpieces of Laszlo Mednyanszky, Ferenc Olgyay, Vilmos Aba-Novak, Istvan Zador.
According to Director General of the National Art Museum of Belarus Vladimir Prokoptsov, the exhibition will make the first brick in the foundation of mutual friendly cultural cooperation between the museums. “It is a cultural breakthrough in the relations between our countries and, of course, at the interstate museum level,” he stressed.
The works of Hungarian artists will be on display at the National Art Museum from 23 October to 18 November. After that the paintings will travel around Belarus until June 2014.
The exhibition “Hungarian Rhapsody. Artists of Szolnok” is organized by the National Art Museum of Belarus, the Janos Damjanich Museum in Szolnok and the Embassy of Hungary in Belarus.
