MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Andrei Kravchenko of Belarus won the decathlon gold at the European Athletics Championships which are underway in Zurich, Switzerland, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian scored a total of 8,616 points, just one point less than his personal record.
Silver went to France’s Kevin Mayer (8,521), with bronze clinched by Russia’s Ilya Shkurenev (8,498). Kai Kazmirek of Germany that led long throughout the event failed to hold his position and finished sixth with 8,458 points.
In the previous years Andrei Kravchenko won bronze at the European Athletics Championship in Barcelona.
Another Belarusian decathlete Eduard Mikhan completed his performance in Zurich after the Javelin Throw event at the 14th spot.
Belarus’ leading sprinter Alina Talai finished 5th in the 100m Hurdles clocking 12.97. Gold went to Tiffany Porter from the UK (12.76). Silver was claimed by Cindy Billaud from France (12.79), with bronze collected by Germany’s Cindy Roleder (12.82).
In the Long Jump Final Olga Sudareva of Belarus finished 11th with the result of 6.29m. Natalia Vyatkina failed to reach the Triple Jump Final finishing the qualifying round at the 20th position with the result of 13.13m.
