This year the Belarusian capital celebrates its 948th anniversary. Minsk was first mentioned in chronicles in connection with the legendary Battle on the Nemiga River between the armies of Vseslav of Polotsk and the sons of Yaroslav the Wise that took place in 1067. Minsk witnessed many tragic enemy invasions, devastating wars and fires… During the years of the Great Patriotic War alone, the Belarusian capital lost thousands of inhabitants and was almost completely destroyed. Virgin Mary is the patron of Minsk. Surrounded by angels, she is depicted in the city’s coat of arms dating back to the 16th century. The symbol has been recently placed on the bank of the Svisloch River to decorate the historical center of the city, the Upper Town.
Today Minsk is a beautiful and rapidly developing city. It is frequently ranked among the best European capitals in terms of comfort and business attractiveness. Over the recent years, the architectural style of Minsk has considerably changed with the construction of new business centers, shopping malls, sports and entertainment centers, hotels, restaurants, and cafes… However, the city manages to keep its uniqueness and charm.
