It is really hot in the Belarusian city of Grodno these days. And it is not only because of the heat wave that hit Belarus in early August. Another reason is the amazing competitions that are watched by the whole city. Grodno is hosting the World Fire and Rescue Sport Championship which brought together over 300 participants from 13 countries of Europe and Asia. Competing are national U23 and U18teams: the youngest athletes-rescuers are just 14.
The competition program includes a hurdles course, a firefighters relay race, fire attack deployment, and the most spectacular competition – a hook-ladder climb. A training tower has been erected in Grodno downtown for this event. The tower made of 15 tonnes of steel and 22 cubic meters of wood imitates a four-storied residential building and is fitted with hook-ladders.
