RIO DE JANEIRO, 14 August (BelTA) – Vadim Streltsov of Belarus (-94kg) finished second in the Olympic men's weightlifting competition with a combined 395kg (175kg+220kg), BelTA has learned.
Iran's Sohrab Moradi lifted a combined 403kg to take gold. Aurimas Didzbalis of Lithuania took bronze, lifting a combined 392kg.
Belarus’ Alexander Bersanov finished 8th with a combined 381kg (173kg+208kg)
Earlier, Belarus’ Darya Naumova won -75kg women’s silver with a combined lift of 258kg.
MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has sent greetings to weightlifter Vadim Streltsov who won an Olympic silver medal in Rio de Janeiro, BelTA learned from the presidential press service.
“This is a good response to all doubts concerning the competitiveness of Belarus’ weightlifting today,” the head of state said. “By coping with the great psychological pressure in terms of tough competition with other athletes, you have demonstrated outstanding sports mastery, strong character, and the will to win,” the head of state noted.
“Thank you for this success which instilled confidence in the future of weightlifting in Belarus,” Alexander Lukashenko stressed.
The President wished Vadim Streltsov and the Belarusian weightlifting team strong health, happiness, and new scintillating victories.
