Lukashenko suggests working out recuperation program for Syrian kids in Belarus

MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – We can work out a program of recuperation, education for Syrian children in Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Syrian Social Affairs and Labor Minister Rima al-Qadiri on 28 August, BelTA has learned.

“I suggest thinking about the next year’s program of support for Syrian children in Belarus right now. Perhaps, we will welcome 100, 500, or even 1,000 children. The main thing is to plan everything in advance so that we could invite your children for recreation, recuperation and, possibly, education in Belarus,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The president remarked that he would not like to elaborate on the war in Syria and the support that Belarus provides to Syrian people in all fields. “I think you know about it. Today it is important to agree on our future, and children are our future,” the head of state stressed.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, people who survived in World War II, the Great Patriotic War are still alive in Belarus. “Belarus was hit in that war more than any other republic of the Soviet Union. I believe in the simple people’s truth: if you respond to someone’s grief, and if, God forbid, something happens to you, people will definitely help you,” the president said.

The head of state gave presents to them and asked if they liked Belarus. “One of you said that you do not want to leave Belarus, that you have been dreaming of heavy snow which would stop the plane from taking off. We do not need snow right now, but you can stay in Belarus. We will be always glad to see you here with your friends. Tell them that Belarus will always welcome them with great love,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state remarked that he knows Syria President Bashar al-Assad very well and would like those present at the meeting to give him his best regards.

Alexander Lukashenko also asked about the health of a Syrian girl who underwent a tumor removal surgery in Belarus. Rima al-Qadiri said that the child feels well. The president promised that the girl will stay in Belarus as long as she will need for her rehabilitation.

Rima al-Qadiri welcomed the initiative of Alexander Lukashenko to work out a program of recuperation, education for Syrian children in Belarus. “You have anticipated our request. You have almost fulfilled children’s dreams now. We like you very much in Syria,” she said. “All children liked their trip to Belarus. And all of them have a dream to return to this wonderful country once again, to make more friends here.”
