MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Darya Domracheva raced to the third gold medal in Sochi. After the golden finishes in the 12.5km pursuit and the 15km individual, she won another gold medal in the 12.5km mass start on 17 February, BelTA learned. The Belarusian became the first woman to win three biathlon titles at the same Olympics.
Darya Domracheva took the early lead in the mass start and never looked back. She made one miss on the 4th shooting range but was too fast for the opposition to catch up. She came to the finish line after 35:25.6
Gabriela Soukalova of the Czech Republic clinched silver and Norway’s Tiril Eckhoff was third, 20.2 and 27.3 seconds behind the leader.
The pursuit bronze medalist Nadezhda Skardino of Belarus was 16th this time, with two misses, 1:42.4 behind the winning time.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva on winning gold in a mass start at the Sochi Olympics and has awarded the title Hero of Belarus to the athlete.
The congratulation reads: “It is a tremendous success! You did great! Entire Belarus is elated by your new victory.
You have accomplished a feat by becoming a three-time Olympic champion.
