MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Belarusian freestyler Alla Tsuper claimed gold in the 2014 Winter Olympics Ladies’ Aerials on 14 February. It is Belarus’ fourth medal (three golds and one bronze) at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, BelTA has learnt.
The 34-year-old freestyler finished sixth in the qualification round. In the first final attempt the Belarusian scored the highest 99.01 points. In the four-woman final, Alla Tsuper scored 98.01 to clinch the gold. Mengtao Xu of China took silver scoring 83.50. 2010 Vancouver gold medalist Lydia Lassila claimed bronze (72.12).
The 2014 Winter Games are fifth for Ukrainian native Alla Tsuper. She represented Ukraine in Nagano in 1998. Representing Belarus she finished 9th in Salt Lake City in 2002, 10th in Turin in 2006 and 8th in Vancouver in 2010.
Alla Tsuper had been thinking of retiring after the 2010 Vancouver Games. In 2012 she gave birth to her daughter Liza and made the decision to come back. The return was triumphal. The experienced aerial skier said before the Sochi Olympics that she had made the final decision to retire after the 2014 Games.
