Syria seen as Belarus’ reliable partner in Middle East

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) - Syria is a reliable partner for Belarus in the Middle East, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to Belarus Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Syria to Belarus Mohammad Aloumrani in Minsk on 13 May, BelTA has learned.

"I am sincerely happy to make your acquaintance, Mr Ambassador. For our country, Syria has always been a reliable partner in the Middle East. Our peoples know each other very well. We are friendly nations, thanks, among other things, to good interaction at the highest level. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have developed good relations over all these years. There is also good cooperation between the governments of our countries, ministries and departments. We have an intergovernmental commission. This is very important for us," Natalya Kochanova said.

The speaker stressed that the Belarusian people and the government have always supported the Syrian people in their desire to preserve their sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. "The visits that we continue to exchange testify to the support that our countries provide each other in these difficult conditions: Syrian has been dealing with them for a long time, and Belarus, too, has recently faced the sanctions pressure from Western countries. Of course, our countries must stand together to shield against the destructive policy and attempts to interfere iwth the internal affairs of our countries," she said.
