MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The humanitarian aid from Belarus arrived in the port of Latakia on 18 November. Syria received 25 tonnes of food products and clothes, Belarus’ Ambassador to Syria Alexander Ponomarev told RIA Novosti.
“Belarus’ humanitarian aid was received in the port of Latakia in the presence of Governor Ibrahim al-Salem. This is a total of 25 tonnes of food products, including baby food and stewed beef, and about 3,500 items of clothes and footwear from Belarusian producers,” said Alexander Ponomarev.
According to the head of the diplomatic mission, the aid will be distributed among those in need in three Syrian provinces: Latakia, Homs and Damascus. Among the receivers are orphan asylums, migrants, churches and organizations distributing the assistance.
“We hope such cooperation will be continued. There are plans to ship three trucks of the Minsk Automobile Plant. These vehicles will be delivered to the city of Latakia as well,” the ambassador added.
In 2015-2016 Belarus shipped 80 tonnes of aid by heavy aircraft of the Emergencies Ministry.
