Rachkov: Belarus takes over CSTO presidency amid systemic crisis of international relations

MOSCOW, 2 February (BelTA) -  Belarus has taken over the presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) at a time of systemic crisis in international relations,  Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Affairs, Migration Policy and Relations with Compatriots of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov, BelTA has learned.

“Today we live and work in very difficult conditions of sanctions, which the West imposes on Belarus and Russia,” said Sergei Rachkov in Moscow at an meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on International Affairs, Migration Policy and Relations with Compatriots with the participation of members of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. “Belarus has taken over the presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization at a time of systemic crisis in international relations. One should note the unprecedented aggravation of military and political situation on the Eurasian continent and further polarization of approaches to the new world order. The pressure against Belarus and Russia is growing.”

“The crisis of the international and regional security architecture directly concerns the CSTO, which is exposed to a variety of challenges and threats,” stated Sergei Rachkov.

The participants of the session discussed joint actions of Belarus and Russia in foreign policy and the role of MPs in strengthening peace, stability, international and regional security. Sergei Rachkov presented information about priorities and urgent tasks of Belarus’ presidency in the CSTO. The participants of the meeting also considered the draft agreement between the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on granting the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia the status of a partner of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
