MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Valery Mitskevich took part in a dialogue with representatives of the ASEAN member states to discuss "Parliamentary Cooperation: Shared Commitments for Peace, Stability and Prosperity" on the sidelines of the 44th General Session of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Jakarta, Indonesia, BelTA learned from the House of Representatives.
During the dialogue the discussion touched on the prospects for developing cooperation between Belarus and the ASEAN countries, mutual support to trade, economic and investment cooperation, and strengthening cooperation in inter-parliamentary organizations.
Valery Mitskevich talked about the results of the work carried out by the Parliament of Belarus to implement the decisions taken at the national referendum and to bring the Belarusian legislation in line with the updated Constitution.
Valery Mitskevich urged to promote unifying initiatives at all levels of the inter-parliamentary dialogue that are consonant with those that Belarus has proposed to the international community with an aim of strengthening regional and global security, creating a world order based on respect for sovereignty, cultural and historical diversity, trust and effective economic cooperation.
The attention of foreign MPs was drawn to the fact that the model of the world based on the principles of one’s own superiority should be transformed into a world of equal opportunities and mutual respect, which can be built only when the interests of all parties are taken into account.
The Belarusian MP also called on the members of the Assembly to jointly respond to the discriminatory economic measures imposed by Western countries that have ramifications for the entire international community and that breed crises, tensions and conflicts.
