GOMEL, 26 October (BelTA) – Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko has arrived in Gomel to take part in the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Ukraine, BelTA has learned.
At Gomel International Airport, the Ukrainian president was welcomed by Belarus’ Vice Premier Igor Lyashenko, Gomel Mayor Piotr Kirichenko and also Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development, Building and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president laid flowers at Taras Shevchenko’s bust that was opened at the namesake park in Barykina Street in 2004 and talked to representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora.
Ahead of the plenary session of the Forum of Regions, the presidents of Belarus and Ukraine are expected to hold a bilateral meeting. According to the press service of the Belarusian leader, the talks will focus on trade, economic and investment cooperation of the two countries through the prism of the potential of direct regional contacts.
The two countries are expected to sign a package of documents and conclude agreements on a wide range of areas of mutual interest.
