Opinion: Belarus, Mongolia have common approaches to building new architecture of global cooperation

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Mongolia maintain long-standing historical ties, Andrei Rusakovich, member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Eurasian Studies of the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University, said at the Belarusian-Mongolian evening in the House of Friendship on 16 November. The event was titled as Historical Past - Bridges to the Future, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Rusakovich emphasized that there were very strong political and economic relations between the two countries during the Soviet era. “Our countries were military and political allies and defeated German fascism together,” the professor said. “Now Belarus and Mongolia are developing bilateral cooperation, are actively working on building a large Eurasian partnership, and have common approaches to building a new architecture of cooperation in the world.”

The event dedicated to Mongolia was held in the House of Friendship for the first time. Nina Ivanova, Chairperson of the Belarusian Society of Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, said: “There were very good ties between our countries in the Soviet times. Mongolia is an interesting country, and we will do our best to popularize its culture and history.”

Students of the Belarusian State Economic University made a presentation on Mongolia’s history, geographical advantages and national peculiarities. It is a state in East Asia, bordering Russia in the north and China in the south. Mongolia is one of the landlocked states. The state is a participant of almost all UN structures. The official language is Mongolian, written in the Cyrillic alphabet. Almost half of about 3 million residents of the country live in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. This is a country of nomads, whose traditions have been handed down for centuries.

There is an alley of Belarusian-Mongolian friendship in Minsk, which symbolizes the inviolability of friendly ties between the two countries.

Poems and songs were performed at the event attended by students of the Belarusian capital's universities and activists of the House of Friendship.

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Mongolia were established on 24 January 1992.
