MFA: Belarus, Syria have developed solid foundation of mutual relations

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Syria have developed a solid foundation of mutual relations, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov said at the first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony for the stamp to mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Syrian Arab Republic on 27 November, BelTA has learned.

“This year is special for Belarus and Syria: we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations. During this period the Belarusian-Syrian interaction has been developing on the basis of friendship and trust. We have exchanged high-level visits, embassies in Minsk and Damascus are successfully functioning, and an intergovernmental commission has been set up. Cooperation has been established in trade, education, culture and sports,” the deputy minister said.

“Work continues to implement the agreements reached during the visit of the Belarusian prime minister to Syria last December,” Evgeny Shestakov added. “The success of our cooperation is based on the complementarity of the economies, the realization of the potential of the two countries, the desire of the parties to work together to achieve common success, the well-being of citizens and the strengthening of relations across the entire spectrum of mutual interests.”

“Belarus has always extended a helping hand to Syria, especially in difficult hours, remaining faithful to the principles of equal dialogue. Under the patronage of the Belarusian president, Belarus runs a project offering recreation and recuperation to Syrian children. Belarus regularly sends humanitarian aid to Syria,” the deputy minister said.

Evgeny Shestakov stressed: “Belarus is ready to continue supporting the brotherly Syrian people at the stage of post-conflict peace building. I am convinced that the solid foundation of relations, which has been built over the years of joint successful work, will be a reliable support for further development of fruitful ties between our countries and a pledge of strong Belarusian-Syrian friendship for many years to come,” he said.

The Belarusian and Informatization Ministry has issued an envelope with the stamp “30th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Syrian Arab Republic”. The A stamp corresponds to the tariff for sending a simple letter weighing up to 20g inclusive within the Republic of Belarus. The project was prepared in cooperation with the Belarusian embassy in Syria.
