MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – A member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Klishevich has met with members of the Mexico-Belarus friendship group at the Mexican parliament, the Belarusian parliamentarian told BelTA.

The meeting took place at the General Congress of the United Mexican States. The parties explored possibilities to deepen cooperation between the two countries in social and economic fields.

Head of the Mexico-Belarus friendship group Magdalena Núñez announced plans to expand contacts between the countries, primarily in the political dimension. In her opinion, this will become a good foundation for building mutually beneficial contacts in trade and economy.

Magdalena Núñez praised Belarus’ social policy. “People of Mexico do not have social guarantees that Belarusians have. For example, Mexican mothers are entitled to only 3 months of maternity leave. Therefore, Belarus is an example for us of what we need to strive for in domestic policy,” she noted.

Deputies of the General Congress of the United Mexican States expressed interest in building mutually beneficial cooperation in the agricultural sector, as well as training specialists for various sectors of the Mexican economy.

In turn, Sergei Klishevich informed his Mexican counterparts about the ongoing attempts to put pressure on Belarus for its peaceful, humanitarian initiatives. In particular, the deputy spoke about Belarus’ humanitarian mission to provide rehabilitation and treatment to children of Donbass in Belarus. “This is not the first such initiative. Previously, children from Syria and regions of Japan affected by the Fukushima nuclear accident came to Belarus for recovery. At the same time, a number of Western politicians continue to openly lie and accuse Belarus of “abducting children,” although everyone knows that all children from the region of the armed conflict return home,” he emphasized.
