Makei, Lavrov discuss conflict in Ukraine, interaction in international arena

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) - The foreign ministers of Belarus and Russia, Vladimir Makei and Sergey Lavrov, held a meeting on the sidelines of the session of the CIS Ministerial Council in Dushanbe, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The ministers exchanged views on the situation in the region, the prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, and the interaction between the two countries in the international arena," the press service said. “The parties considered the topical issues on the bilateral agenda, including joint efforts to counter the sanctions imposed by the West. Special consideration was given to the preparations to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation was discussed.

In Dushanbe Vladimir Makei also met with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tleuberdi of Kazakhstan. The parties discussed the prospects for intensifying Belarusian-Kazakh trade and economic relations, ways of advancing cooperation in industry and agriculture and exchange views on the prospects for international cooperation between Belarus and Kazakhstan, including cooperation in universal and regional organizations. The parties noted a high level of mutual understanding and support between Belarus and Kazakhstan and reaffirmed commitment to furthering cooperation on bilateral and multilateral tracks.

The prospects for stepping up trade and economic cooperation and promoting a mutually beneficial strategic partnership between Belarus and Tajikistan were considered during the meeting with  Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin of Tajikistan. The importance of coordinating joint efforts to expand interaction across the entire range of issues of mutual interest, including in international organizations, was emphasized.
