Lukashenko urges the need to prevent conflicts between president, Belarusian People’s Congress

MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – A president will have to reckon with the decisions of the Belarusian People's Congress, the body that has received constitutional powers. But at the same time, it is important to prevent conflicts, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a meeting timed to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Belarus on 15 March, BelTA has learned.

"The Belarusian People’s Congress will exercise people's constitutional control over all processes in the country. The president, no matter what kind of president he will be, will have to reckon with the decisions made by the Belarusian People's Congress. My task now is to enable solutions to prevent this conflict. In history, such conflicts have been common. We must not allow that to happen. I am sure that with your help, educated and advanced people, we will be able to do this. We need to hold the country together," the Belarusian leader said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the Belarusian People’s Congress, as a collective mind, will choose the best development option: "One person, no matter who he is, with such great powers as they are now... Who knows whether he will cope or not. Therefore, without interfering with the president the Belarusian People’s Congress must carefully find its place in our social structure. I set such a task for the Constitutional Commission (president is the head of state, responsible for many things)... This is what we must do. Therefore, we will talk about it at the next Belarusian People's Congress."

The president also asked the experienced people to stay tuned in this process. "Please stay in touch. We will leave when we pass what we have built on to the younger generation," he said.
