MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has declared that there is no pressure on Belarus on the part of the United States. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made this statement during the meeting with journalists on 29 January, BelTA has learned.
“I say on all occasions that it is impossible to put pressure on Lukashenko. You say that Americans are trying to do it. Americans have never pressured us, neither yesterday, nor a day before yesterday, and not in this time. Quite the opposite, we are maintaining a dialogue. We have agreed with them: guys, let us stop slinging mud at each other in mass media. We do not see it on the part of Americans anymore. Their rhetoric is not what it used to be. They are reluctant to revise certain attitudes and keep talking about political prisoners and something else. We understand it. It will be over eventually. Emotions are not running high anymore,” the Belarusian leader said.
The head of state emphasized that Belarus will never betray or steer away from Russia to the West. The relations with Russia are above all. “I do not want any enemies in the West and I do not see any now. However, this does not mean that I have adopted a wait-and-see policy. I am head of state; I have certain responsibilities, from mundane issues to the defense. I am fulfilling and will fulfill them to the best of my ability, so that you will never be ashamed of me,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
