Lukashenko congratulates al-Assad on 30th anniversary of Belarus-Syria diplomatic relations

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad on the 30th anniversary of Belarus-Syria diplomatic relations, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
“This period has seen substantial progress in Belarus-Syria relations based on friendship and trust,” the head of state noted. “The parties exchanged visits at the highest level, embassies opened in Minsk and Damascus, an intergovernmental commission was set up, cooperation was launched in trade, education, culture and sports. Belarus has always stood by Syria, extended a helping hand during hard times. I assure you of our readiness to continue to support the fraternal Syrian people during the post-conflict construction,” the message reads.
Aleksandr Lukashenko went on saying: “Our states will successfully handle new challenges and we will maintain fruitful cooperation in the bilateral format and on international platforms.”
The president of Belarus wished Bashar al-Assad and his family good health and happiness.
