MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zas met with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 4 September. The head of state was told that preparations for the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Union Shield, which is due to take place in autumn, are nearing completion, BelTA learned from the state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus after the meeting.
“We are about to start the final stage [of preparations for the exercise],” Stanislav Zas said. In his words, work is also in progress to launch live missiles in the Russian army exercise area Ashuluk.
During the meeting the head of state wondered about the state of military hardware and weapons. “It is a matter of great importance for the Armed Forces,” Stanislav Zas stressed. “The president ordered an inspection of the state of mothballed military hardware and weapons soon – in autumn. The state of the hardware used daily is obvious but the state of the hardware in storage needs to be checked from time to time.”
