BARANOVICHI, 1 September (BelTA) – Belarus has to pursue a multipronged policy whatever the situation is, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media in Baranovichi on 1 September, BelTA has learned.
“Whatever the situation is, we have to pursue a multipronged policy. Why have we always declared a multi-vector nature and multi-polarity? Planets and systems can stay stable only when they have several pillars. When they lose one or two of them, they begin to shake and may collapse. I have always been for multi-polarity.”
The president emphasized that the world would not last long only thanks to the powerful United States. “There is no Soviet Union any more. There were two opposing pillars, which were always aware of the red line. I have always been for multi-polarity. As for a multi-pronged nature, Europe’s geographical center is in our Polotsk. What policy should we pursue?” the head of state asked a rhetorical question.
Aleksandr Lukashenko added that Belarus had never turned away from Russia, although during the economic disputes it was forced to look for an alternative oil supplies. “It is a pure media fiction that Lukashenko has turned to the West. Yes, I have pursued a multipronged policy as much as I could. You think I do not understand that Europe, let alone America, does not need me. I had to save the country, when I was not understood there [in Russia],” the president said.
