Lukashenko: Belarus has always treated Ukrainians well

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - Belarus has always treated Ukrainians well, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media after casting his ballot at the referendum on the updated Constitution of Belarus on 27 February, BelTA has learned.

The head of state commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s address to the Belarusian people: “He has addressed the Belarusian people on the referendum day in our country. As if they have nothing better to do in Ukraine than to make speeches from a bunker addressing the Belarusian people and advising them what to do. It makes me want to say that they suggest that we repeat the fate of Ukraine. They want Belarus to be like this.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled how weapons were supplied from Ukraine to radicals in Belarus and how militants were trained for the protests in Belarus. Ukraine was the first country to close its airspace to Belarusian planes and imposed other restrictive measures, the president stressed.

“Who is he addressing? We have always treated Ukrainians well. We did everything for them. What did we get? He, wearing this shirt or T-shirt, decided to address the Belarusian people today. The Belarusian people has someone to be addressed by. Let him address the Ukrainian people and be responsible for what is happening in Ukraine today,” the Belarusian president said.

According to the president, today's conflict in Ukraine is only the beginning. “If it continues like this, we will see terrible things. He will not hide in any bunker, be it an American or any other one. Today we must stop the war. I would not even call it ‘war’ right now. It is still a conflict. Another day or two and there will be a war,” he said.
