MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich made a speech at a special session of Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan. The special session of the Azerbaijani parliament was dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the birthday of the former president of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament told BelTA.

Valery Mitskevich said: “An entire age is connected with the name of Heydar Aliyev. During the times of the Soviet Union he was one of the most experienced and principled state figures in the leadership of the large country. He was awarded the title of the Hero of the Socialist Labor twice, the Order of Lenin five times, and the Order of the Red Star once. Belarusians highly appreciate the personal contribution of Heydar Aliyev to Belarus-Azerbaijan relations. Heydar Aliyev was one of the first leaders to establish diplomatic relations with Belarus in 1993. We will celebrate the 30th anniversary of these relations on 11 June 2023.”

In this period the policy in favor of advancing the strategic partnership prompted Minsk and Baku to take important steps to develop the political dialogue as well as economic, trade, and cultural ties, the vice speaker noted. Valery Mitskevich went on saying: “The special friendly nature of relations of the leaders of Belarus and Azerbaijan represents the foundation for longstanding and solid friendship of the two nations. As a worthy son of his father the current president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev continues the policy in favor of developing the country and reinforcing Belarusian-Azerbaijani relations across the board. In fateful times for our independent Belarus he showed skills of a wise politician and a genuine friend. The kind gesture of Baku will always be remembered in Minsk.”

Belarus-Azerbaijan dynamic cooperation is also reflected in the interparliamentary dialogue. “We’ve never had differences of opinion in the entire history of development of interparliamentary ties. In tight interaction and in a constructive manner our work proceeds at international platforms where the national delegations always support each other. Mutual assistance is an unshakeable principle of success and a guarantee of our fruitful cooperation. Most importantly we have political will, there are leaders, relations between whom represent an example to follow for all branches of the government of Belarus and Azerbaijan,” Valery Mitskevich added. “I am convinced that memory of Heydar Aliyev will be preserved for centuries and his grateful descendants will augment his legacy for future generations. His life will be an example to follow for all of us.”
