Kochanova: Belarus is ready to cooperate with Iran across the board

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to cooperate with Iran across the board, Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mokhber in Minsk on 17 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have a long history of friendly relations. Thirty years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. We are always glad when our friends and colleagues come to visit us,” said Natalya Kochanova. “The time is not easy now, we know it. We are witnessing a shift in the geopolitical landscape. And every country feels the impact of these processes. Our president has said many times that we should brace for a very difficult period. This only strengthens our determination to build closer relations with the nations that are committed to peace and, most importantly, that stick to their own laws and traditions. I would like to express my gratitude for your support of our country on international platforms. This means the world for us,” Natalya Kochanova said.

The speaker recalled that Belarus was targeted by completely unjustified sanctions. “We cannot but worry about the pressure on Belarus,” she noted. “However, our country is developing against all the odds and remains a welfare state. The president set his goals load and clear: sanctions should not affect our people. That is why we greatly value friendship and cooperation with the countries that make part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and we thank you for the support,” Natalya Kochanova noted.

“Our country has a bicameral parliament. The Council of the Republic is the chamber of territorial representation. Therefore, international cooperation is one of our key areas of work,” Natalya Kochanova emphasized. “We make statements about illegal actions against our country because we fully understand how important it is today. Our country is ready to engage with all countries in the world that act constructively. Our policy is peaceful. We have never created any threats to anyone or shown any aggression. Therefore, we do not understand why Western neighbors and America are stoking tensions around our country,” Natalya Kochanova remarked.

Economy and humanitarian contacts are central to cooperation between any countries. Yet, inter-parliamentary contacts are also very important. “Therefore, we welcome cooperation between our parliamentarians and hope that this cooperation will bring appreciable results for our countries and peoples,” added Natalya Kochanova. “For my part, I would like to assure that we are ready to cooperate across the board. We sincerely thank you for this visit, which, I am sure, will give a fresh impetus to our good relations,” she added.
