Justice ministries of Belarus, Kazakhstan outline promising avenues of cooperation

MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – The Justice Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan came to an agreement on many aspects of cooperation and signed a corresponding memorandum in Minsk on 17 August, BelTA has learned.
“Any type of activity must be formalized. The existing level of interaction [between the justice ministries of the two countries] is reflected in the memorandum. The document reaffirms the commitment of the Justice Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan to continue cooperation in order to protect legitimate rights and interests of our citizens, our fraternal friendly states,” Belarusian Justice Minister Sergei Khomenko told journalists after signing the document.
In line with the memorandum, the justice ministries will exchange information about the legislation of the two states, implementation practices and key legislative trends; they will also streamline legislative activities, promote e-justice, train and educate personnel. The document also provides for cooperation in such areas as registration of business entities, the operation of enforcement bodies, as well as interaction while implementing international treaties in the field of justice, etc.
According to the minister, the Belarusian side will study Kazakhstan’s best practices in digitalization, pre-arbitration and arbitration proceedings and the activities of enforcement agencies. At the same time, Belarus also has something to bring to the table, especially in the areas of law-making, interaction between the government and civil society, the work of notaries and advocacy, Sergei Khomenko continued. He is confident that it will give a fresh impetus to cooperation between the justice ministries of Belarus and Kazakhstan and will benefit both parties.
Speaking about digitalization, the justice minister noted that this matter is under special control of Belarus’ head of state and top government officials. “We are working on it. The work is already bearing fruit in a number of areas, including administrative procedures, notary activities, registry offices. We are making progress,” he said.
A round table was held on 17 August to discuss the work of the justice ministries of Belarus and Kazakhstan. Taking part in it were the justice ministers of the two countries, as well as Chairman of the State Forensic Examination Committee of Belarus Aleksei Volkov. Following the meeting, a cooperation agreement in forensic examinations was signed.
