India shows interest in cooperation with Belarusian museums

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) - The joint exhibition project of the Yakub Kolas State Literary Memorial Museum and the Embassy of the Republic of India “Far Away in Distance, but Close in Songs: Rabindranath Tagore in the Belarusian Cultural Space” took place on 12 May. The project celebrates Rabindranath Tagore and Yakub Kolas, BelTA has learned.

“This year India and Belarus are marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and our cooperation is diverse, including economy, trade, and science. One of the most important aspects is culture. It brings people together,” said Ambassador of India to Belarus Alok Ranjan Jha.

When asked about further development of cooperation with Belarusian museums, the ambassador said: “The idea of cooperation of India with Belarusian museums is very interesting. So far this sector has not been 100% explored by us. In the near future I will contact the relevant authorities in India and perhaps we will indeed establish cooperation between museums.”

Rabindranath Tagore is the author of novels, essays, short stories, dramas and many songs. In Belarus, his work has been known since the beginning of the 20th century. His works make up 15 volumes. Tagore's short stories mainly describe the life of Bengali farmers; in this way the world-famous Bengali writer is close to the well-known Belarusian writer.
