MOSCOW, 2 December (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei took part in a videoconference meeting of the Foreign Ministers Council of the states-members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on 1 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministers exchanged views on the main global and regional security trends the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the situation in the world. The council members emphasized the important role of the CSTO in a dynamic international environment and the need to make the full use of the CSTO’s capabilities in maintaining international peace and security, including in view of the development of the CSTO peacekeeping component.
Vladimir Makei presented Belarus’ assessments of the situation in regional and international security. He noted the growing mistrust and conflict potential in international relations.
The minister expressed concern about the further erosion of the system of international arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation agreements. Vladimir Makei stressed the importance of joint consolidated efforts to strengthen the architecture of international security and stability.
During the meeting, Tajikistan presented the CSTO's priorities for its upcoming presidency in 2021.
The ministers of foreign affairs of the CSTO member states made a joint statement on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two and approved the documents to be submitted to the CSTO Collective Security Council.
