BISHKEK, 26 October (BelTA) – The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) adheres to the principles of equality and non-interference in internal affairs, Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the meeting of the SCO Heads of Government Council, BelTA reports.
On behalf of the government of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko congratulated Iran on becoming a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He emphasized that Belarus also welcomes the UAE, Kuwait, Myanmar and the Maldives joining the SCO as dialogue partners.
“It is natural and understandable that so many countries have an interest in the organization. Amidst dramatic geopolitical changes and persistent attempts of the West to prevent the formation of a multipolar world by using the entire arsenal of tools - from illegitimate economic sanctions to stoking armed conflicts - the SCO is one of the few international structures that respect, not in word but in deed, the principles of equality and sovereignty of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and advocate sustainable economic development of the region. In the very near future, Belarus expects to join the ranks of the organization as a full member,” said the prime minister.
He expressed gratitude to all SCO member countries for helping Belarus join the organization. “We have no doubt that we will help make the Shanghai family stronger. We count on your governments to promptly complete all the necessary internal procedures to fast-track Belarus’ ascension to the SCO,” the Belarusian head of government added.
