MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – The complete removal of U.S. sanctions would contribute to faster advancement of Belarusian-American relations. The press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the statement in response to the decision of the U.S. Department of the Treasury to extend the suspension of sanctions against Belarusian enterprises, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “We welcome the decision of the American side to extend the suspension of sanctions against a number of Belarusian enterprises. Yet we remain convinced that a complete removal of existing U.S. sanctions would most favorably contribute to faster development of Belarusian-American relations.”
The day before BelTA quoted U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Bridget Brink as saying that the suspension of sanctions against a number of Belarusian companies will be extended by another six months after 31 October.
The U.S. Department of State representative also stated that the USA expects relations with Belarus to improve further. “Including the exchange of ambassadors. But it is a gradual process,” said Bridget Brink. “The sides share the view regarding the need to normalize and improve relations between the countries.”
