MOSCOW, 15 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have plans to step up interaction with new centers of power in the Global South and the Global East, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik said at a joint meeting of the collegiums of the foreign ministries of Belarus and Russia in Moscow, BelTA has learned.

The foreign minister emphasized that the majority of countries are getting increasingly tired of the elusive hegemony of one group of states, injustice and the aggressive foisting of principles, values and traditions that are alien to them. “Belarus and Russia see the rise of new centers of power in the Global South and the Global East, their growing role in the international arena, their willingness to contribute to the formation of a more fair global agenda and to defend their national interests, demanding respect for their path of development,” Sergei Aleinik remarked. These countries are confidently working to promote their socio-economic, scientific and technological development, strengthen their political and economic sovereignty. “In this context, there is a clear need to further develop and coordinate our cooperation with friendly nations in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean,” the minister said.

According to him, it is of great importance for Belarus to participate more actively in international organizations that are committed to maintaining a mutually respectful dialogue, like SCO, BRICS, ASEAN, CICA. “Their work is focused on the positive agenda and development, which is not the case with Western-centric organizations that pursue exclusively their parochial interests,” the Belarusian foreign minister said.

The participants of the meeting are set to discuss proposals to intensify political and foreign economic interaction with the countries of the Global South and the Global East.

Speaking about the Eurasian security architecture, Sergei Aleinik noted: “It’s no secret that unfortunately the situation in this field, both internationally and regionally, continues to deteriorate. The military and political environment is getting increasingly tense, including along the perimeter of our borders.” In such a situation, the Belarusian foreign minister deems it extremely important to take coordinated measures to ensure security and cooperation on the Eurasian continent taking into account the interests of all countries based on the principle of single and indivisible security.
