FM: Belarus advocates for end to bloodshed, peaceful settlement of Middle East conflict

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) –Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Belarus Ahmed Almathbouh on 24 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, including the Middle East peace process. The parties expressed hope for speedy normalization of the situation in the Gaza Strip and urged to find mutually acceptable solution in accordance with international norms and decisions of the UN General Assembly to avoid further escalation of the situation in the region, growth of casualties among the civilian population in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone and to achieve the peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Sergei Aleinik informed Ahmed Almathbouh about Belarus’ consistent position on the Middle East settlement process, which the country is promoting in international organizations and integration associations.  The minister drew the Ambassador’s attention to the common position of the CSTO member states on the need to end the bloodshed and to peacefully resolve the Middle East conflict through political and diplomatic means on the basis of UN resolutions on the two-state solution.

 During the meeting, the parties also touched on the topical issues of the Belarusian-Palestinian agenda and discussed promising areas for intensifying political, trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Palestine, increasing interdepartmental contacts and expanding the legal framework of bilateral cooperation.
