MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Ecuador Igor Poluyan met with Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Guillaume Long, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
On behalf of the president and the government of Ecuador Guillaume Long expressed profound gratitude to Belarus’ leadership for the humanitarian aid delivered to those affected by the most destructive earthquake in the last 67 years on 16 April.
The sides also discussed topical aspects of bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, scientific, technical, educational, and humanitarian affairs. Close attention was paid to advancing the interstate dialogue at the high and top levels, to preparations for the third session of the Belarusian-Ecuadorian commission on trade and economic cooperation, and participation of the Belarusian delegation in the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III).
On 29 May a Belarusian aircraft left for Ecuador with 50 tonnes of humanitarian cargo on board. Upon request of Ecuadorian authorities the cargo was delivered to the city of Manta, Manabi Province in the earthquake-hit area. The Belarusian aircraft delivered tents, blankets, mobile diesel electric generators, folding beds. The total value of the cargo is estimated at nearly Br6 billion.
