OSHMYANY DISTRICT, 26 March (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media on 26 March that defense and security are the most important issues to be discussed at the upcoming session of the Belarusian People's Congress, BelTA has learned.

As BelTA reported earlier, the updated National Security Concept and Military Doctrine of Belarus will be submitted for approval to the Belarusian People’s Congress.

According to the head of state, this is a strategy. “There is nothing more important than that,” he added.

The Belarusian People’s Congress is also set to consider tasks for the next five-year period, make personnel decisions.

“Our first session will consider personnel issues in the first place. The chairperson, the presidium of the Belarusian People’s Congress will be elected. Maybe we will manage to make appointments to the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, and the Central Election Commission. All these decisions have been transferred from the president to the level of the Belarusian People's Congress. The judicial power gets certain independence, which means we are moving along the democratic path. This is, however, not to the liking of our self-exiled opposition, nor our opponents and enemies. They could have said about it,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested that the Belarusian People’s Congress should start with the president’s report on the situation in the world, the country's economy, the existing challenges and threats. “Then, based on this we will talk over personnel issues, our defense doctrine, and so on,” he said.

The work on the agenda and regulations of the event in underway.
