Cuban interior minister in favor of tighter cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) – Topical avenues of Belarus-Cuba cooperation in the prevention of emergencies and the alleviation of their consequences include the sharing of the best practices, exchange programs for specialists and professors, and the joint training of rescue workers. The relevant agreement was reached as Belarusian Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky met with Cuban Minister of the Interior Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas, BelTA has learned.

Vadim Sinyavsky and Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas discussed cooperation prospects and mentioned interest in further enhancement of Belarusian-Cuban relations across a broad spectrum in the field of emergency prevention and response.

The parties confirmed the seriousness of their intentions and the eagerness to continue cooperation by signing an agreement on cooperation in emergency prevention and response between the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry and the Cuban Ministry of the Interior.

Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas stated: “For Cuba it is important to step up cooperation with the Republic of Belarus in various spheres of life and certainly in the field of emergency prevention and response. Getting familiar with Belarusian vehicles and equipment, with practices will surely be useful for us and will help with our work. By signing the agreement between our ministries, we confirm the intention to continue work on solidifying our interaction.”

The topical aspects of cooperation the agreement stipulates include the sharing of the best practices in preventing and responding to emergencies, exchange programs for specialists and professors, the organization of training of rescue workers in Belarusian and Cuban education institutions, preparation and implementation of joint projects of technical, social, and humanitarian cooperation as well as the organization of various joint events.

The Belarusian delegation led by Emergencies Minister Vladimir Sinyavsky was made familiar with the operation of the Cuban Ministry of the Interior and visited various facilities of the ministry. Vladimir Sinyavsky had previously met with Chief of the National Staff of Civil Defense of Cuba, Division General Ramon Pardo Guerra.

Representatives of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry reminded that the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Cuba continues bilateral cooperation, which began after Belarus donated humanitarian aid to Cuba in November 2023 in a bid to help alleviate consequences of the fire at the oil storage facility in the Matanzas port in August 2022.
