CSTO representatives discuss military and political situation in region

CSTO representatives discuss military and political situation in region

MINSK, 22 November (BelTA) - The military and political situation in the region became one of the topics of a joint meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils that took place in Minsk on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

The talks were held ahead of the CSTO summit which is due to be held in the Belarusian capital on 23 November. The agenda of the joint meeting included the military and political situation in the regions of collective security and the work of the organization in the intersessional period, and also priority areas of activity during the upcoming presidency of Kazakhstan in the CSTO.

As BelTA reported earlier, Minsk is set to host a meeting of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) on 23 November. The meeting will be chaired by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. The Collective Seucrity Council members are expected to discuss issues of international and regional security, define future tasks and adopt a number of documents aimed at securing collective security interests.

On 20 November Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Imangali Tasmagambetov. The head of state acknowledged that the post-Soviet space is going through a difficult phase. First of all, this is due to conflict situations, including in the CSTO area of responsibility.

“But we are prepared for this, and I hope that this summit of the military-political organization in Minsk will help build up our efforts to strengthen defense and security of CSTO members,” the president said.
