MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – The 2016 year-end meeting of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council will take place in Minsk on 15 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
Attending the meeting will be Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev. The meeting participants will take stock of their activity in the outgoing year and outline a plan of action for 2017.
This year the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council held 16 meetings (including one jointly with the CIS Commission on Economic Affairs). The meetings discussed more than 50 issues related to different areas of cooperation in the CIS and the activity of the CIS bodies, including the union's adaptation to the present-day challenges, and also draft agendas for the CIS supreme bodies and the implementation of the CIS documents.
Kyrgyzstan presided in the CIS in 2016. Kyrgyzstan’s permanent representative in the CIS, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Belarus Kubanychbek Оmuraliev will deliver a speech on the results of his country’s presidency in the CIS.
The CIS Plenipotentiaries Council will consider proposals to the draft agenda of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting which is due to take place in Tashkent on 7 April 2017.
