China president’s forthcoming visit to Belarus hailed as major milestone in bilateral relations

MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) – The forthcoming visit of China President Xi Jinping to Belarus will be a major milestone in the development of Belarusian-Chinese relations. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei made the statement as he met with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

“We are preparing for the visit very thoroughly. We are convinced that the visit will be a major milestone on the way to further expansion of our relations. We are ready to discuss all the matters concerning the visit of the China president to Belarus,” noted Vladimir Makei.

The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs named the forthcoming visit the most important event in Belarusian-Chinese relations. “We consider your visit as an important event in preparations for this significant event for our bilateral cooperation. I mean the visit of the president of the People’s Republic of China,” stressed the Minister.

Vladimir Makei noted that Belarus and China are implementing a number of joint projects. Belarus has already spent about $5.5 billion worth of Chinese loans on improving and developing the Belarusian economy.
