CEC head: Belarus’ new parliament represents all segments of society

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ new parliament represents all segments of society, Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Igor Karpenko said at the first meeting of the first session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the eighth convocation on 22 March, BelTA has learned.

“40% of the newly elected MPs are employees of government bodies, 23.6% - representatives of science, education, healthcare, culture and sports, 15.5% - workers of industry, transport and construction, 7.3% - representatives of internal affairs, the Emergencies Ministry, the Armed Forces, 2.7% - representatives of trade, consumer services, housing and utilities,” the CEC head said. “Belarusians actively voted for the candidates, well-established in their profession, demonstrating a successful career. Thus, 56 elected MPs were heads of government bodies and organizations, 18 - deputy heads, seven headed structural subdivisions of organizations.”

All newly elected MPs have higher education, 38% of them have state awards, and 9% - academic degrees and titles.

“The newly elected parliament represents all segments of the Belarusian society and includes professionals in various spheres of life, which will help the country’s newly formed legislative body perform its functions at a high level,” Igor Karpenko said.
